Karel Appel (1921–2006). Figure and Bird – Mixed Media on Cardboard

An expressive composition depicting an abstract figure and a bird-like form. Strong outlines and spontaneous brushstrokes are combined with deep blues, greys, yellow, red and ochre. The simplified forms and playful character give the painting a distinctive presence.

Description

Karel Appel was a leading Dutch artist and one of the founding members of the CoBrA movement. He became known for his spontaneous approach, expressive figures and bold use of colour.

We chose this work for its unusual character and the remarkable balance between freedom, colour and expression. After several months of careful stylistic analysis and consultation, the work has been attributed to Karel Appel.

The work is presented in a possibly original black wooden frame with glass. The frame has been restored while retaining its authentic character and complements the strong colours of the composition.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
