A. Colliard. French School. 20th Century. Still Life with Roses – Oil on Cardboard
A soft and luminous still life depicting a generous bouquet of pink and white roses arranged in a green glass vase. The flowers are loosely gathered against a pale background, allowing their delicate colours and varied forms to remain the focus of the composition.
Description
Painted with visible, textured brushstrokes, the work combines impressionistic freedom with a gentle sense of observation. Shades of blush pink, white, lavender and muted green are enlivened by touches of coral and warm yellow, while the softly painted glass vase anchors the composition.
We chose this particular work for its lightness and wonderfully fresh palette. There is an effortless quality in the handling of the flowers, with individual strokes remaining clearly visible across the petals and foliage. The result feels decorative and expressive without becoming overly formal.
The painting is presented in the decorative vintage carved wooden frame shown in the photographs. Its aged gold and muted green tones complement the soft colours of the flowers particularly well. The visible wear and losses to the decorative finish contribute to the frame’s authentic vintage character.
