Marc Ottee (1898-1982). Dutch School, 20th Century. Still Life with Nasturtiums – Oil on Canvas
A warm and atmospheric still life by Dutch painter Marc Ottee, depicting a generous bouquet of red, orange and burgundy nasturtiums arranged in a dark metal pitcher.
Description
A small ceramic bowl and a richly patterned textile complete the intimate tabletop setting.
The flowers are painted with lively, expressive touches, their saturated colours emerging beautifully from the restrained brown-grey background. The subtle reflections on the pitcher and bowl introduce light into the darker arrangement, while the cascading flowers and textile give the work a natural sense of movement.
We chose this painting for its particularly rich palette, expressive handling and quiet, almost theatrical atmosphere. The contrast between the glowing flowers and the subdued interior makes it both decorative and full of character.
The painting is presented in an elaborate gilt vintage frame decorated with moulded shell and foliate ornaments. Its aged gilding and warm patina complement the colours of the painting beautifully. Both the artwork and frame remain in excellent vintage condition.
