Frits ter Braake (1897–1977). Dutch Winter Village – Oil on Canvas
A beautifully atmospheric winter landscape by Dutch painter Frits ter Braake, depicting a quiet village canal beneath a heavy grey sky.
Description
Snow-covered roofs, a slender church tower, a small bridge and moored boats are rendered in a restrained palette of soft greys, earthy browns and muted blue-green tones.
The simplified forms, strong architectural lines and broad, confident brushwork give the scene a distinctly modern character, while retaining the intimacy and stillness associated with the Dutch landscape tradition.
We chose this work for its quiet atmosphere, beautifully balanced composition and wonderfully preserved patina. The dark church tower creates a strong vertical accent, while the frozen canal naturally draws the eye into the village.
