An atmospheric harbour scene depicting a large steamship surrounded by sailing boats and smaller vessels.
Description
Painted with lively, expressive brushwork, the composition combines muted blue-grey and green tones with warm accents of brown and ochre. The dramatic clouds, smoke and restless water give the small painting remarkable energy and depth.
We chose this work for its strong maritime atmosphere, confident handling and particularly successful relationship between painting and frame. Despite its modest dimensions, the complete piece has an impressive and highly decorative presence.
The painting is presented in a massive ebonised wooden frame with deep architectural mouldings, inspired by traditional Dutch frames. Its dark finish and monumental proportions intensify the luminosity of the painting and give the ensemble an almost museum-like character.
