Brutalist Sculptural Candlestick, circa 1960s–1970s – Cast Metal
A remarkable sculptural candlestick composed of numerous abstract, totem-like figures gathered around a central candle platform.
Description
The arrangement evokes a group of people standing together around a fire, giving the piece a powerful, almost ritualistic character.
Made from extremely heavy cast metal, the object has a strong Brutalist appearance, with irregular surfaces, bold silhouettes and a dark finish. It can be used as an impressive candlestick, but its expressive form and monumental presence also allow it to stand independently as a sculpture. For this reason, we have chosen to include it in our Art collection.
The underside bears several cast and incised marks, although they remain difficult to decipher. Based on its materials, construction and design, we would date the piece approximately to the 1960s–1970s.
