Eduard August Becht (1868-1931). Dutch School, late 19th / early 20th century. Woodland Landscape – Oil on canvas
An atmospheric woodland landscape, with a narrow path leading between trees towards a sunlit clearing.
Description
Freely worked brushstrokes and the contrast between shaded foliage and distant light give the scene depth and a quiet, intimate character.
Eduard August Becht, also known as Ed Becht, was born in The Hague and studied under Julius van de Sande Bakhuyzen. His work centres on wooded landscapes and dunes, with particular attention to light and atmosphere. Alongside painting, he was an accomplished etcher and worked as an art critic.
Selected for its sensitive treatment of light and the natural rhythm of the composition.
Presented in an ornate antique gilded frame with foliate decoration. A few small ornaments show minor damage and require local restoration. These do not affect the frame’s structural integrity or decorative character.
