Large Louis XIV Revival Gilt Frame, Mid-20th Century
A richly ornamented frame in the Louis XIV Revival style, made from wood with moulded decorative elements.
Description
Its broad profile is decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs and pronounced corner ornaments, while the deep, aged gilded finish gives it a gorgeous and authentic patina.
The frame has a strong architectural presence and is ideal for a portrait, landscape, still life or mirror. Its warm, time-softened gilding would particularly complement an older painting with earthy or subdued colours.
The 1970s dating is possible, although the construction and natural ageing suggest that it may be somewhat earlier. I would therefore present it more safely as mid-20th century, circa 1950s–1970s.
